Since the dawn of the Internet, online forums have proven to be a thriving hive for those in trading and finance. Whether sharing trading strategies, discussing market news or to simply chew the fat while the markets are quiet, even amidst the rise of social media, forums continue to be popular trader hideouts.

With that in mind, we sent our intrepid writer Chris Johnston on a digital journey to round up the most popular trader forums online today, and in the process list their vital statistics - including member numbers, costs, expertise-levels and the people behind them.

Chris has come up with 12 entries - ordered only by oldest to newest - which we aim to bring you in three parts, beginning with the first four below. The list is by no means exhaustive, so if there's any of your own favourite forum haunts that we've missed off, do get in touch as we'll be happy to consider adding it to our list. One of the smaller forums we’ve looked at, with 13k members, but with over 153k posts across 9k topics. A futures-concentrated forum, this site has a Daily Notes section where you can filter through any instrument from S&P to Bitcoin to bring up charts, statistics on highs & lows, daily & weekly pivot points, Fib extensions and retracements.

Being called My Pivots, predictably it has an inbuilt calculator for calculating pivot points for forex, futures, bonds, commodities, stocks, options and any other financially traded instrument that have a high, low and close price across any time period. It possesses a Traders' Lounge for general discussions, along with chart forums for trading strategies and setups.
