Studies have shown that skin cells regenerate in the space of eight days. This means that if you’ve had a few stressful days trading you won’t notice it on your skin until the week after.
The same principle applies to when you make positive changes. So if you want great looking skin; follow leading shaving brand Cornerstone’s tips below, be a little patient and in a few days time you should start seeing some great results.
1. Make It A Priority Every Morning
The first step to healthy skin is ensuring you make it one of your priorities every morning (and night). Use a face wash every morning, before you shave, to clear your skin of any dead cells or dirt that may have accumulated over night.
A face scrub is also a great addition and can be used two-to-four times a week to get an even deeper cleanse, clearing your pores and ensuring you get an even smoother shave as it will help to release any ingrown hairs.
For clear-looking skin, hydration is key. Not only will your skin feel much more hydrated, but you will also avoid those annoying patches of dry skin and, dare we say it, it will also help plump out any fine lines.
You should be aiming to drink at least two litres of water a day, even more if you’re also drinking alcohol or coffee which can dehydrate your body. Always have a bottle of water at your trading desk and continually take sips throughout the day.
But don’t forget moisturising your skin – a good hydrating moisturiser can go a long way to ensure your skin feels great all day, especially after shaving.
3. Watch What You Eat
The food you eat will have a clear impact on your skin. Stay away from processed and sugar-filled products as much as possible. This will benefit your skin, hair and your general wellbeing, so if you’re still reaching for that cookie jar, now is probably a good time to consider healthier snacks.
Avoid fatty foods too, especially those that come from processed sources. Instead go for healthy fats such as those found in nuts, avocados or oily fish.
What you should also bear in mind is the different types of food you’re having. To ensure you are getting all the nutrients you need, keep it colourful. The more colours on your dish, the more nutrients and antioxidants you will be taking in.
Stress can have a wide range of effects on your body – one of them being the appearance of blemishes and spots and premature skin aging. The obvious advice is to steer clear from stressful situations, but - especially as a trader - that’s not very realistic now is it?
Instead, focus on how to deal with stress; from reading your favourite book to meditating or taking up a new hobby, try taking a few minutes out of your day just to get a bit of headspace.
5. Stay Active
There are a number of benefits for your skin associated with exercising. Playing your favourite sport or hitting the gym can help your body maintain healthy levels of cortisol and collagen. Doing short bursts of exercise between lulls in trading is also a good idea (check out our Trader Workouts here).
Keeping a good balance will help avoid spots, but will also help keep wrinkles at bay. Exercise also ensures your body is pumping fresh blood, improving your circulation and ensuring oxygen reaches every pore of your skin. This will help draw toxins out so you can enjoy clearer skin.
When hitting the gym, though, ensure you thoroughly wash your face afterwards – keep those pores clean from sweat!
