TraderLife Guide To: Mykonos, Greece

Greece is bouncing back and the hip and beautiful island of Mykonos is reaping the rewards. Here's why it should be on your list of must-visits...

Introduction to Mykonos

After years of austerity and high-profile economic troubles, Greece will this summer see a record-breaking number of tourists as its recovery continues apace, with over 32m visitors expected to arrive eager to once again sample the country's famous blue seas, white-washed buildings, delicious food and ice-cold Mythos.

All of this and more can be enjoyed on the island of Mykonos, situated in the Cyclades group in the Aegean Sea, with direct flights available from the UK. The feel of the islands boasts everything from high-end restaurants to real greek delights; day clubs with DJs to paired back beaches; refreshing breezes and an anything-goes vibe. Some are comparing Mykonos to how Ibiza once was. But let’s try and keep this one a little secret, hey?

So pack your Orlebar Browns, Schwims, rolled up skinny cargos and a fitted T and get ready to feel cool in every sense of the word.

Boutique, luxury, five-star - the terms used to describe the accommodation on the island prove that you certainly won't be slumming it during your stay - here's our pick of the best...

The Belvedere, Mykonos

The Belvedere, Mykonos

The Belvedere
A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the iconic Belvedere is everything you’d expect of five-star luxury, located right in the heart of Mykonos Town and offering a stunning view of the Aegean Sea.

Beach Clubs

Let's face it, there's only so much tranquility a trader can handle. It's not a holiday if it doesn't include at least one hangover slumbering in the sun, so here are the best places to get the party started...

Scorpios, Mykonos

Scorpios, Mykonos

Overall Winner:
Expect a bohemian feel, award-winning interiors, outstanding food and all day DJs taking you on a deep vibe journey, unknowingly you will find yourself dancing around your sun lounger in your swimwear at 9pm. Perhaps one of the few beach clubs where you are not packed like sardines, this is expansive.

Stylish beach club with a yoga studio, designer boutique, DJ creating a party atmosphere, waiters parading magnums of rosé and platters of lobster. Paparazzi-tastic due to the rock stars (Jon Bon Jovi being the latest), Victoria Secret models and moguls.

New Kid on the Block:
Principote Panormas
Trying to take the crown of the flashiest beach club on the Island, the place the beautiful people want to be seen, but perhaps the cooler of the two with David Morales having played there already.

Eat late or you are a stand-out first timer. Squeeze out the last of the day clubs, take a ‘nap’ then head out looking groomed for a pre-midnight dinner. There are plenty of bars, fashion houses and contemporary galleries in the town to explore pre-dinner. Just a note, if your girlfriend wears Louboutin’s be prepared for a twisted ankle, try and encourage her to wear jewelled flats...

Desert at Interni, Mykonos

You will never have been to anything like it, understated, great food and the music simply takes it to another level.

Matsuhisa @ Belvedere
A trader favourite, Nobu hits Mykonos in the most luxe surroundings. Perched above Mykonos town you will feel like a King surveying his twinkling kingdom below. Be careful not to lose your plus one in the hotel boutique!

Cantonese with Dash of Greek:
Mayfair favourite Hakkasan catering to its vacay-ing clientele. Glamorous, glossy lips and tanned faces.

Rustic Beach:
Famously secret lunchtime spot. Leave any pretences behind as it's too laid back for that, simply relax and drink the box of wine (yes box, get over yourself) placed on the wall alongside the queue which adds to the charm: yes it is THAT popular. Simple and delicious BBQ’d greek food with a beach below, BYOT (bring your own towel).
